Snapchat Score Not Updating? 9 Ways You Can Fix It

July 2024 · 6 minute read

Your Snapchat Score, better known as a Snapscore, is a point system that Snapchat uses to reward users for actively using the app. Your Snapcore will increase as you use the app more often.

However, one issue some users have with the Snapscore feature is when it gets stuck on the same number even though they're using the app frequently.

If your Snapchat score is not updating, here are some troubleshooting tips you can try.

1. Make Sure You're Posting the Right Content

To calculate your Snapscore, Snapchat considers the number of snaps you send and receive as well as some other factors.

Snapchat does not reward users with points for messages. So sending or receiving a message or text on Snapchat will not change your Snapscore.

You also won’t receive points for viewing stories. The purpose of the Snapcore is to reward users for actively using the app, and more passive activities like the ones mentioned do not earn points.

Rather, sending or opening a snap will earn you one point. And posting a snap on your private or public story will also earn you one point.

If you are posting the right content but your score is still not updating, try one of the other fixes.

2. Force Close and Reopen Snapchat

A common misconception about Snapchat is that your Snapscore updates in real-time. But it can take up to a week for your accurate Snapscore to reflect on your profile.

You can try to speed up this process by refreshing the app by force closing and reopening it. To force close Snapchat, you will have to exit the app and clear it from your App Manager before reopening it.

To do this on an iPhone:

  • On your Home screen, swipe up from the bottom to open the recent apps panel.
  • Swipe right till you locate Snapchat.
  • Then swipe the app preview up and away to force quit it. This will stop Snapchat from running.
  • Once you have closed the application, reopen Snapchat.
  • Close

    3. Check Your Internet Connection

Your Snapscore may not update if you have a poor internet connection. To check your internet connection, ensure your router is on and within range. You can also move closer to your router to get a better connection.

If that doesn't work, you can try connecting to another Wi-Fi network or using a mobile data network to see if the issue persists. Alternatively, enable then disable Airplane Mode or toggle the Wi-Fi settings off and on to refresh the connection.

    4. Update Your Snapchat App

Another troubleshooting tip to try is updating your Snapchat app. Your Snapscore may be stuck if you are using an old version of the Snapchat app. Updating Snapchat will clear any bugs and get your Snapscore working properly.

To update Snapchat, head to the App Store or Play Store, search for Snapchat and tap Update if there’s one available. This will download and install the latest version of Snapchat on your device. If your Snapchat is already up-to-date, it will show Open instead of Update.

    Close

    5. Restart Your Device

If none of those steps works, you can try restarting your device. Hold the power button until prompted to Restart or Shutdown your device, and then select the Restart option.

If you use an iPhone, there is no restart option, so you’ll have to power off your iPhone and turn it back on. Press and hold either of the Volume buttons together with the Side button until the Power off slider appears. Then, swipe the slider, and wait for your device to turn off.

After about 30 seconds, turn your device back on by long pressing the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    6. Log Out and Log Back In

Another fix you can try is to log out of your Snapchat account and then log back in.

    To log out:

  • Open Snapchat and tap the Profile icon on the top left of the screen.
  • Then, tap on the Settings icon at the top right of the screen.
  • Scroll down and tap on Log Out.
  • Confirm it by tapping Log Out again when prompted.
  • Close

To log back in, open the app again and tap Log In. If you have your information already saved, tap on your profile icon to log in again. If not, you will need to add your username and password.

    Close

    7. Reinstall Snapchat

Reinstalling the Snapchat app on your device is another fix you can try. To do so, you must first uninstall the app and then reinstall it.

To uninstall Snapchat, hold down on the app icon on your home screen and tap on App Info, and a menu will appear. Locate and tap on Uninstall.

If you use an iPhone, press and hold the Snapchat icon on your home screen. Then tap on the Remove App and DeleteApp options when prompted. You will then have to tap on Delete to confirm the action.

    Close

To install Snapchat, head to App Store or Play Store and search for Snapchat. Then, tap on Install to reinstall it. If you use an iPhone, the cloud download icon may appear instead of Install.

    Close

    8. Clear Your Snapchat Cache (Android)

If you are using an Android device, you may have noticed that Snapchat gives you direct access to the app's cache within the app itself. And so there's no need to go to Android's settings app. If you want to clear the app cache on your Android device:

  • Open the Snapchat app.
  • Tap on your Profile icon at the top left.
  • Tap on the Settings icon at the top right.
  • Scroll down to the Account Actions section and tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap Continue to confirm you want to clear the cache.
  • Close

    9. Contact Snapchat Support

If all these fail, the last resort is to contact Snapchat’s customer service to help resolve your problem. To contact Snapchat Support:

  • Open the Snapchat app on your device.
  • Tap your Profile/Bitmoji icon in the top left corner.
  • Tap the Settings gear icon in the top right corner.
  • Scroll down to the Support section and tap on I Need Help.
  • You will be redirected to a site where you will see the Contact Us button.
  • Close

Just Remember It's Not All About The Score

Using these troubleshooting tips should resolve any problems you encounter with your Snapscore. But remember, Snapchat is a great social media application for keeping up with friends and loved ones, so be sure not to become too particular about your Snapscore or else you may miss out on all the fun.
