Camanche warehouse destroyed by fire

The Greystone Warehouse in Camanche, 311 37th Ave., was destroyed by fire just after midnight Friday.

At 12:06 a.m. Feb. 23, the Camanche Fire Department was dispatched to the warehouse on fire, then full of plastic pallets. The department responded with two engine companies, one ambulance, one tender, one command vehicle and 14 personnel, according to a Friday release from Camanche Fire Departmemt.

Clinton and Low Moor fire departments also responded to the scene, which had moderate black smoke coming from the warehouse. Crews remained on scene for another three hours conducting overhaul and removing smoldering pallets from the building, the release said.

The building is a total loss and its contents were valued at $1 million. There were no injuries and the building owner is insured, the release said. The fire department was on scene for about nine hours total, and the cause of the blaze is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Camanche Fire Department.

Other assisting agencies included Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office and MidAmerican Energy.
